On Thursday March 20th the chorus gathered at the Oatlands Club in Harrogate to perform a concert as a fundraiser for The Friends of Harrogate Hospital. It was a great turnout with 26 members of the chorus (almost a full complement) and an audience of over 100, all of whom had paid £10 to be there.
The chorus delivered two sets of six barbershop songs, with each set also including an interlude delivered by Greg Tunesi and the Ukes section. Greg is himself a volunteer trustee for the Friends of Harrogate Hospital.
Also included in the performance was an audience participation session using My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean as the song. This caused much amusement among both chorus and audience as MD Les Whitworth introduced clapping and stamping variations to the lyrics..
Ian McNeill delivered a mixture of musical ditties and monologues, donning his trademark flat cap for the Stanley Holloway monologue "The Battle of Hastings".
Chairman Keith Riggs organised that drawing of the raffle which had over 20 winners with all the prizes donated by members of the chorus.
John Fox, Chairman of trustees of the Friends of Harrogate Hospital gave a vote of thanks to the chorus for their efforts and subsequently wrote a letter of thanks saying that the event had raised over £1,100 for the charity.
Like many events done by the chorus, the members enjoyed the occasion as much as the audience, with lots of smiles and sparkling eyes in evidence.
